The study of anti-bactericidal antibodies in the blood sera of normal donors and patients with chronic active tuberculosis has shown that the production of the titre of antibodies to the causative agents of tuberculosis in the blood sera of the patients with chronic active tuberculosis and chronic sequelae of tuberculosis of different clinical forms and stages was at a considerably lower level, which in some cases was practically zero. The maximum titre of antibodies occurred in early phases of the disease, the decrease in the titre of antibodies in the blood sera of patients with the severe forms of the disease and after the disease has been cured, depended on the clinical form of tuberculosis, the clinical stage, and the cause of an immunodeficiency. The anti-bactericidal activity of the IgM- and IgG-containing antibodies was practically the same in the blood sera of normal donors and patients with chronic tuberculosis. The low activity of the anti-bactericidal antibodies in the blood sera of the patients, which became evident in the study of the activity of antibodies in the passive hemagglutination test, was associated with a low activity of IgG, whereas the anti-bactericidal activity of the IgA-containing antibodies remained in both patients and controls practically unchanged. It is suggested that the anti-bactericidal antibodies have an important role in the resistance of the human body to the action of tubercle bacilli. The fact that the anti-bactericidal activity of the antibodies to the causative agents of tuberculosis in the blood sera of patients was different from that in the blood sera of normal donors is explained by the lack of the "protective" antibodies to the causative agents of tuberculosis in the blood sera of the patients at the time of examination.Reviews
